WEJDAS - ZEMES ALSAVIMAS (CD by Dangus)
Wejdas are also well-known but for whatever unknown reason never reviewed in Vital Weekly. Their new album title translates as 'breathing of the world'. These days Wejdas is a two piece band: Darius Gerulaitis (voice, synth, sampling, delay) and Donatas Bielkauskas (programming, keyboards, sampling, horns). There are two works on this CD, the lengthy 'Klinciu Sluoksnis', one track of thirty minutes and the seven parts that form 'Angliu Sluoknsnis'. Wejdas plays dark ambient industrial music that has many ancestors, mainly those who write 'ritualistic' as 'ritualistik' - it's utter dark music, with occasional rhythm that is vaguely ethno related and spoken word sections (as opposed to singing). Sometimes thing may be a bit too pathetic, too gothic as I would have said in a different life, but when things become less self-serious and more experimental, its certainly enjoyable. For those who love all things bleak and ambient industrial, for the fans of Hybryds and Schloss Tegal, but a bit more ambient, than this is certainly to check out.

WEJDAS: "Zemés Alsavimas"- CD (DGCD015)
Third CDby this Lithuanian duo released on their own label this time after a CDR onBastet and a CD on Red Stream."Zem?s Alsavimas" meaning "Breath of the earth",you can expect ritual music and this CD is absolutely great ritual music, very evolutive and catching, with a first long evolutive droning introductory track and climaxing on second part of the CD on tracks like "Ritualen des Bersteines" - rituals of the yellow amber - where you can really feel the ritual and shamanistic touch. Somehow as you were participating to the ritual… Really recommended if you like powerful and meaningfull atavistic ritual music. One of our lasts heartbeats

WEJDAS “Zemes alsavimas” cd

- Wejdas
Somewhere between the minimal ambient
rhythmic panoramic sounds of Endura and the edge
of metal-tinged folk industrial, this band produces
a digitally-synchronized assembly of sounds built
around a general rhythmic shape, unifies it by
a concept mostly transparent to the listener yet
felt in the completeness of songs, held together
like noise music by an improvisational mixture
of distorted sound, strings, keyboard- and synthesizer-generated
waves, as well as the confluence of effects in
processing guitar textures. Although this isn't
an exact science, and this three-song EP ranges
across the spectrum without doing more than demonstrating
proof of concept, there could be a future for
this band if they take their clearly facility
with music and use it to convey causally related
concepts, as there are already too many bands
that leap into an atmosphere, swim in it for a
brief spell, and then depart. One of the recent
adventurous signings on Red Stream.

(Bastet Recordings) BASTET'S BASTARDS V.2
Many of the compilations that I have recently
reviewed have been sheer treasure chests of new
music, each one opening up whole new vistas of
sound, and Bastet's Bastards is certainly no exception.
The bands and artists featured on Bastet -- a
number of them quite obscure -- are generally
excellent, and if anything Bastet seems to plunge
deeper into the underground and extreme than its
sister labels. The compilation swiftly moves from
atmospheric and classically inspired soundtrack
music, over harsh noise, and on to more experimental
types of electronically generated music.
The CD opens with a very beautiful piece from
the now deleted CD by Heid -- Submitting To The
Uprush Of The Unconscious. The sound is closest
in quality to some of the more atmospheric bands
on Cold Meat Industry; a stately progressing,
classically inspired anthem composed of layers
of darkly harmonic themes, and dense, shattering
percussions. Wejdas carry on the mystical and
somewhat disconcerting mood of Heid, although
their mode of expression is radically different.
On "Die Welt Ohne Rahmen" the listener
is led into a primal setting, echoing with slow
ritualistic rhythms and grotesquely distorted
voices. "Le Langue Des Autres" by N.L.C.
retains the classical elements of violins, piano
and distant chorals, but corrupt the orchestral
serenity with sputtering electronic emissions,
a media sample concerning the theory of gravity,
as well as a sensual female voice reciting brief
messages in French.

A Second, King Lear's Convulsions, Stream Angel,
Jliat, Wejdas, The Implicit Order & The American
Tract Society.
Another CD-R compilation from EE Tapes showing
the varying forms of ambient electronics. The
music ranges from the eerie, deep space ambient
of King Lears's Convulsions to the Vidna Obmana-inspired
electronics of Xabec. Then there is the simple-yet-effective
heartbeat rhythm with foreboding electronics of
Alfa Tau Bau, and the melancholic, beautiful grand
piano piece from Jliat that makes me think of
melting snow at the end of winter. let us not
forget the soothing ambient electronics with tribal
drum rhythms of Jlhevs, the sci-fi darkness with
sinister whispered voices and moretribal beats
of Frames A Second, and the resonating spacey
ambience of Wejdas. All of these are excellent.
In fact, there are only a couple of tracks here
which don't meet the high standard set by the
aforementioned.

"WEJDAS"
2000 RED STREAM CD. Curioso trabajo el
de estos dos paganos lituanos, Donatas Bielkauskas
y Darius Gerulaitis. He escuchado cosas raras
de 10, y "Pasaulis Be Riby/The World without
y ambiental, demasiado new age para mi gusto,

WEJDAS
s/t CD. Wejdas is a ambiant project coming
out from Lithuania. This two men band seems to
have a double personnality. One of these personality
is caracterised by a slow an spiritual (maybe
new-age) vibe. The other personality is weird
and very experimental.
The first track of this album last over tirty-one
minutes. It's a kind of mystical meeting between
a man and some spirit coming from the land of
the dead. The opening piano melody is pure magic.
A impressing quantity of samplers and organic
effect, along with some monk choirs, are include
in this track. In fact it's the only track that
matter on this CD, the perfect relaxing music
before to go to bed.
As far as I'm concern, I think that the other
two track are not pertinent at all. The second
track is a kind of weird and repetitive (and aggressive)
beat executed on a instrument unknow to me. Imagine
that you are already fell asleep during the first
track and you suddenly wake up, swearing against
this kind of techno (and your girlfriend also
swear at you because you awake her). What you
do after? You probably drop the CD in the garbage
or just put it back in is jewel case (in swearing,
of course) and never listen to it again. Finally,
the third track is a kind of boring musical interlude
play on some strings instruments.
Their is only some vocals in the first track.
They are executed on a kind of ghostly narrative
parts. The lyrics are in Lithuanian (I think)
and they are translate within the booklet. It
talks of a mystic reflections about the nature
arround him (the narrator).
Overall, a part of this album is excellent but
the other part is a total waste of time.
QUOTE:4.5/10 8 for the first track, 0 for the
two others

The second part, "Amulet" presents more
silent, ambient side of pagan creation. Here we
find dark wave, neo-folk, ambient, experimental

WEJDAS offer what's worth to look for in this
field. So, if you want to get familiar with the

WEJDAS - 'Wejdas' CD (Red Stream)
Very obscure release - apocalyptic folk with semi-orchestral
tendencies from this new Lithuanian duo. Strings
and pianos, chants, flutes and voices make up
this lush collection, but with strange electronics
and noises also. Only three tracks but over 45
minutes of music - a nice discovery.
